Cultural Heritage Management

Caring for Our Past

Safeguarding our cultural heritage is central to everything we do.

As custodians of our ancestral lands and waters, we manage cultural sites, intangible knowledge, and community protocols to maintain and honour the essence of our people.

Balancing Tradition and Modernity

This includes ensuring that royalties from the bauxite mine at Skardon River are directed toward sustainable development, cultural programs, and environmental protection. We combine traditional laws with present-day practices to protect sacred sites and cultural landscapes.

Working Together

By partnering with government agencies, local businesses, and other stakeholders, we preserve the language, customs, and heritage that define the Angkamuthi people. Our approach keeps culture alive and thriving in the face of modern challenges.

Cultural Heritage Management Agreement (CHMA)

We operate under a Cultural Heritage Management Agreement aligned with the Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Act 2003.

It outlines protocols for identifying, surveying, and protecting significant sites, ensuring that any high-impact activities are accompanied by Angkamuthi Cultural Monitors. This agreement upholds our collective responsibility to safeguard both the land and our way of life.
